HONORS & ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES

Placer High School offers Honors and Advanced Placement courses in the English, Social Science, Math, and Science departments. Course listings in this catalog include prerequisites necessary before enrolling in these classes. Several of these courses have a summer reading requirement, so parents and students are strongly encouraged to contact the subject area Department Chair for more information.

Honors

Honors Courses  earn a higher grade point average (5.0 scale instead of 4.0) and challenge students by moving at a faster pace; they often have prerequisites, so please see description in course catalog for the class. Unlike the Advanced Placement classes, the curriculum is not geared towards taking a test at the end of the course of study which, if the score is high enough, would give the student college credit. Our Honors course offerings are:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science Principles
  • English 10
  • Introduction to Probability & Statistics
  • Journalism
  • Physics (not offered 23-24)
  • Pre-Calculus
  • Yearbook

Advanced Placement (AP)

AP courses have a set curriculum and are geared towards taking tests administered in late spring that might offer students college credit. Like the Honors courses, they are also approved for a higher grade point average. Our Advanced Placement course offerings are:

  • 2D Art & Design
  • 3D Art & Design
  • Art History
